Primo Starr

Carolina All Day chops it up with South Carolina's premiere up-and-coming artist, Primo Starr. Come along wtih us as we dive into the mind of a superstar. Enjoy.

CAD: Where are you from?

Primo: I’m from the big city called Laurens aka LA (Laurens Area) a spot we call South side

CAD: What sets you apart from other artists?

Primo: My grind, hustle, determination and drive to make great music, not just what's hot but to tell the truth is a lost art. Many artists believe the stuff they say is so real they forget its fiction and I feel like music is pure. I don't just make hip hop, I make confederate trap muzik. What I feel is what I say, it just so happens I say what they feel and what others wont say. I tellem what da lawd love and that aint nothin but the truth.

CAD: You have written well over 100 songs, what allows you to keep your lyrics "fresh" and "relevant?"

Primo: I don't follow trends and if I do, I put my own thang on it. I like to call it shaking a lil Starr Dust on the situation. My name in its self is a metaphor for what I do. One Starr, one light, one guide. I dont think inside the box or outside the box. I hang on the outside of it looking in so that every song I birth isn't me at all - it's the universe talking to me, it's the times calling out to me, it's the emotion in the track itself touching all of me to a point where I just become a vessel.

CAD: Your single "Say Hello To My Life" has gained a tremendous amount of attention. How did you come up with the concept?

Primo: It wasn't a concept, it was more of a real life situation that I put on paper and forgot about until I heard this track like three years later that made me go, "Yo! I got something for this already", and boom my life was born. The song was actually a feature for me, but my man B.Moses was like, "nah cuz das you, I cant even touch it". The track chose me. I met with the producer, who's now my producer Mr. Pompey Yep Yep and I said, "Hey I gotta an idea, lets try that t pain shit, but I wanna freak it like this!" An hour later, we was like "we got something here LOL!" It was crazy cause I was litterally emotionally shook when I did it, and still am anytime I hear it.

CAD: Have you collaborated with any other Carolina artists?

Primo: Yeah, me and Marly Mar from Chuck Town got a joint called "I Grind", Debbie from Love Town and I have this joint called Razor Blades & Dollar Billz. I'm on the Gwalla remix with Grind City Worked with Lee Turner Brown who has this crazy soulful voice. Sub Zero and I did this mixtape joint its crazy to a Little Brother track.

CAD: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Primo: Still the hottest Starr under the sun, the illest buisiness game trendsettah and lyrical prowess only measured in Gamma rays. I've been sent to change the world and if the game gets fixed in the process that's all good. The wealth we acquire over the next year or two wont be the measure of my success but mearly the tool to my ascention into the ranks of one the greatest of all times. "Who's the best rapper Weezy,TI,or Starr?"

CAD: What projects are you currently working on?
