Mehka

Carolina All Day sat down with Mehka, creator of the documentary, "Crown Royalty," a look inside the history of Charlotte's Hip Hop scene. From big time artist appearances to the growth of Carolina hip hop as a whole, we discuss it all. Check out the interview.

CAD: Where are you from?

Mehka: Boston Mass orginally but I've been in Charlotte NC since 2001.

CAD: Give the people a description of your upcoming film "The History of Charlotte Hip-Hop."

Mehka: "Crown Royalty" is a discussion about the hip-hop scene in Charlotte as told to us by the artists themselves. We cover everything from the early QC music scene to what's hot now.

CAD: Who are some of the people who will make an appearance in the film?

Mehka: Royal-Tee, Sonny Rich, Tiny T, Maui, The Transfers, Wolly Vinyl, Kam Moye, Ike Turnah, Mattic, Dj Chuck T and more!

CAD: Why did you decide to make this movie now?

Mehka: It was actually supposed to be a story that I was writing for wordonthestreetsmag.com But after I started to put the idea together it started to sound like maybe I should film it rather than just write it.

CAD: What is your advice for young artists in the Carolinas?

Mehka: Stick to your guns and stick to your talent! There are a lot of people in this state that make a living off your talent without making sure that you make a living off your talent! Don't allow people to turn you into a gimmick or sell you talent short.

CAD: How did you link up with the Prop Joe Radio Show for your weekly feature?

Mehka: Me and Prop Joe met about a year and a half ago at the Mid-Atlantic Music Conference. We clicked immediately. I was a guest on his show once and after the show he aksed if I could come on weekly. We've been going hard every Sunday since.

CAD: What is your opinion on the current state of hip-hop?

Mehka: Hip-hop is at its best and worst. Its at its best because more independent labels and artists have a chance to grow and develop as business people and artists. The worst are these people who leach off the artists and their dreams.

CAD: How can people contact you if they are interested in doing business?

Mehka: Get at me at invisiblemanmgmt@gmail.com We do publicity and promotion for businesses using new media. Also you can get at me at twitter.com/mehkavelliI'm always on

CAD: What other projects are you currently working on?

Mehka: Working on trying to develop our next film project and trying to find some consitent people to really come aboard and work with you!

CAD: Shout outs...

Mehka: To the Invisible Team, Miss Wy and Lyte! Shout out to Cherrelle Rene for helping me stay organized and all praise due to God for giving me vision and direction. And shout out to Pro Black and CarolinaAllDay.com for checking me out
