CAD: Where are you from?
Papers: I was born and raised in Orangeburg, SC
CAD: Who were some of your early influences?
Papers: Growing up I listened to a lot of Wu Tang Clan, Canibus, Jay Z, Big L, and Scarface. Those dudes paved the way for the style of rap I love and do.
CAD: When did you know you wanted to make music your career?
Papers: When I first heard Nas’ “I Gave You Power” I thought to myself that was the dopest song I EVER heard. The thought, creativity, the beat… I was like, “Man, I want to do music just like that!” As time passed, I perfected my flow and grew into an artist.
CAD: You have appeared on "Beam's Top 5" which showcases 5 of the hottest songs in the Carolinas. How do you manage to stay relevant and put out so much music?
Papers: I just keep grinding. I keep my face out there, my ears to the streets and promote. I try to make music that is timeless instead of music that is for the moment. In my music I talk about the trendy topics, the heartfelt topics, the catchy topics, I get creative like in my singe “Jimmie Nutron,” but I make sure when you listen to any of my tracks you can listen to it months and years from now.
CAD: In your opinion, has the Internet hurt or helped the music industry?
Papers: I would say both. Major and independent artists can market and promote to mass amounts of people/fans without having a huge budget. This has helped many independent artists get their careers started and growing. Because of the internet, record sales have dropped considerably, BUT artists are getting noticed and shows because of the internet!

CAD: Have you collaborated with any other Carolina artists?
Papers: Yeah, I’ve collaborated with quite a few Carolina artists. I got tracks with Ricky Ruckus who is from NC. We did a joint together that is on my Carolina Muscle mixtape. I’m on Conrizzle’s “Breath of Fresh Air” album that just dropped. I’m on a track called “Chop You Up.” I did the “I’m From the South” remix and “Ride” with my boy *Pizzle*. You can find “Ride” on my mix cd “The Statement.” I have tracks with The Hustle Boyz, ShawtyG, Backpack Shawty, and a couple other artists.
CAD: Tell us about your newest mixtape "The Statement" - features, production, etc.
Papers: The newest project is called "The Statement" and it’s hosted by DJ Fat Dre. It features Pizzle, Backpack Shawty, Yung Truth and Young Menace. As far as production goes, all but one of the original tracks was produced by Flexxbeatz. “POP” was produced by Young Shun.
CAD: Name 3 artists you listen to on a regular basis who inspire you.
Papers: Hands down, Jay Z. BP3 is my shit. Killer Mike; I’m still banging that “I Pledge Allegiance to the Grind 2,” but to be honest, as of late I’ve been listening to a lot of homegrown music. The music coming out of the Carolinas is just inspiring enough. I feel I’m one of the best SC has to offer and just hearing the music we're making and knowing I’m a part of it, is just a blessing.
CAD: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Papers: In 5 years from now I want be looked at as one of the best in SC to ever do it. I want to have put out an album on a major label, and just take it from there.
CAD: What projects are you currently working on?
Papers: Right now I’m working on my lil homie Shawty G’s Street album which coming out this summer. I got the “Welcome 2 My World” collabo album with Backpack Shawty which is finished and coming March 14! My album “1080P Live in HD” is dropping this summer! It’s going to be classic stuff!
CAD: Shout outs...
Papers: Shout out to all my South Carolina Peoples...Ya'll already know! My O’burg family! Shout out to everybody who’s doing their thing on the independent scene in SC and NC. And a major shout out to my manager, Ma Official. She rocks with me ‘till the wheels fall off and she's grinding hard with it right now!
